Shaping is incredibly
fun to teach; however, sometimes the mechanics of getting
started may be daunting. While completing a behavior is very
exciting, the real thrill is the process itself. From the
first glimmer of understanding to the light bulb fully on,
each step is a joy to behold.
With shaping, your timing and creativity will improve, you
will become better at recognizing small approximations and
learn how and when to raise criteria--or when not to raise
criteria, when to try something different, end a particular
session and when to keep going.
You and your dog will become a more close-knit team while
pursuing these fun and functional behaviors. User
friendly instructions are demonstrated with "real" dogs and
their handlers, showing the process of working through each
of these 21+ versatile behaviors:
- Wipe your feet
- Grind toenails
- Go around objects
- Weave Poles
- Nose target hand
- Heeling
- Lose target object
|
- Muzzle training
- Close a door
- Go Outs
- Ride skateboard
- Say your prayers
- Go to crate
- Teeter
|
- Retrieve Chin
- Cheek
- Tire
- Bow
- Shaping the
"real" world
- ....and more!

| Many of them
are useful for a multitude of different behaviors. From
agility to rally and competition obedience, to musical
freestyle to animal husbandry, the behaviors in this video
will keep you hopping! This
is a two part menu driven DVD set that begins with beginning
Shaping to Intermediate shaping. The second DVD covers
Advanced shaping techniques.
Tawzer Dog Videos is proud to have
produced this comprehensive video on shaping. This is not a
seminar but was shot on location at Pamela’s Positive
Motivation Dog Training facility in Belvidere, New Jersey.
It was produced exclusively for educational training using
shaping. Pamela is well educated in the use of this venue as
a positive training tool. She brings wit and knowledge into
your home. Training that is
available in this video would cost hundreds of dollars at a
facility or private training. When I brought the raw
footage home, I just could not justify cutting anything out.
Enjoy four full hours of “hands-on” training as Pam walks
her clients and their dogs thru the various steps to obtain
many, many behaviors. If I could rate my own videos, I would
give this a Five Star. *****
"I watched the shaping DVD last
night, and I am sooooo in love with Darcy!!!!
I was blown away by what your bullies have learnt. I was so
motivated by watching the DVD that I wanted to wake my dogs
up (at 10.30pm) and start straight away"
Bring on the weekend!!!!
Cheers
Erin, Australia
"We have your DVD on free shaping and I have done everything
in the DVD...it has been a great experience for us. It has
helped me come up with new things to do with our dogs and to
strengthen not only the relationship I have with them but
their agility and obedience work. Thank you"!

For dog owners or
trainers of any level, this video will address typical
problem behaviors using positive training methods. Positive
solutions are discussed and implemented.
Very often dogs do things that annoy an
owner. The way these problems are handled may intensify the
unwanted behaviors, as well as create more serious issues.
Many of these unwanted behaviors are often misinterpreted as
aggression, dominance, or just plain being stubborn or
stupid. The behaviors discussed
are: jumping, pulling on leash, not coming when called,
charging through doorways, nipping, stealing and guarding
objects, etc. "We will be
breaking down the solutions for these behaviors in small
easy steps, utilizing, in some cases, the dogs own body
language to get your point across, thus making it clear to
the dog what you want from him without the use of
traditional "corrections." Most of the time, the solutions
are quite simple and may involve only a change in your own
behavior to change the dog's behavior." Says Pam. |

•BRINGING
LIGHT TO SHADOW
A dog
trainer’s diary
Item# B1058 -

This is the story of
a fearful, human-aggressive dog and a trainer who wouldn't
give up. The use of positive, no-force training methods,
will this be enough to save Shadow from death row?
The gods that protect fools,
optimists, and little children must have known what they
were doing when they brought together THIS dog and THIS
owner. Shadow was a handsome, fearful, aggressive, one-year
old, second-hand Border Collie. He lashed out at people
without warning and avoided human touch. Pam Dennison was a
professional dog trainer with 12 years experience and a half
dozen successful dog adoptions behind her when she met
Shadow. When Pam found Shadow at a Border collie rescue site
on the Internet she was just looking to round out her canine
family. Like a match.com date she decided to meet Shadow
"just to see" and, because she couldn't think of any reason
not to take him home, he became hers. He also became her
problem!
Follow their I8-month journey from the
early, dark days of fear and frustration to the daylight of
confidence and trust. Learn how difficult it is, even for a
professional dog trainer, to handle a dog with a past-and a
temper too.
Did she regret her decision to
adopt Shadow? Yes. Sometimes. Did she make mistakes along
the way? Of course. Did she resort to punishment? Never
once.
"Outstanding stuff Very
impressive! I have yet to run into someone with your
determination and commitment. It's great to see an animal
this far in the hole is now climbing Everest." Ted
Turner, Animal Behaviorist, former director of training at
Sea World
"Pam reveals what to do and
(occasionally) what not to do when working with an
aggressive dog." Ali Brown, Author of Scaredy Dog
"I was terrified of Shadow
when I first met him. No one had faith that he could be
rehabilitated except Pam." Jane Killion, "Dog Bait"
during Shadow's retraining process |
