Jacqueline Stephen has a doctorate in shelter dog welfare. She is based within the Psychology Department at the Royal Holloway, University of London. Her research interests are the human-animal bond, animal personality, and companion animal welfare; recently, her research has also included assistance dog welfare. Dr. Stephen’s answers the questions: what is welfare, how is it assessed, and how can it be managed in kenneled dogs?
